Late iterations of British WW2 AI (Airbourne Intercept) Radar did feature automatic target lock, projecting the target onto the windscreen/reflector gun sight, and setting the sight's range, so night fighter pilots could actually aim and shoot by Radar. Crazy shit, of course they would be making up cover stories about carrots to keep that kind of technology secret.

NO JOKE My mom told me to eat more carrots so I'd have better eyesight...

now she has two nearsignted sons, my older brother who's like -7.00 or -8.00 in the... thing idk what you call it, and I have -4.00 to -5.00 on the thing...

Its cuz the damn TV and computers...

Totally not because we were locked up at home till I was 8 and he was 13 (besides school) then I mostly went from 7am to 6pm in schools cuz afterscrool programs were used as free childcare lmfao, also SUMMER SCHOOLS WTF MOM...

So basically I've been staying indoors for most of childhood... thanks mom.

Explanation: In WW2, Britain spread word that carrots improved night-time vision, and that its pilots were eating lots of carrots, in order to 'explain' why they were intercepting Nazi planes over Britain so reliably at night.

In reality, they'd figured out how to fit radar on their fighter planes, and wanted to keep that a secret for as long as they could. The hope was that Nazis keeping tabs on civilian British news would fall for the ruse, and buy UK plane radar a little more time undetected.

Carrots may prevent nutritional deficiencies that lead to poor night-time vision, but they aren't going to make your MK1 eyeballs into NODs.
