They believe the bullshit, and are too ignorant or proud to understand or admit that they got had.

I had to go zero-contact with my mother because over the course of the pandemic she believed increasingly unhinged conspiracy theories, and no evidence could change her mind.

It seems like most folks that I talk to have someone in their extended family that has fallen for the nonsense and ended up isolated from friends and family.
