Some admire Napoleon as an ambitious reformer who did genuinely overthrow many of the feudal regimes of Europe and bring a relatively progressive, reformed, modern idea of governance to the European polities he overcame - others abhor him as a ruthless opportunist who turned the high ideals of the French Revolution to his own ends of autocracy and conquest.

Whatever one's opinion, Napoleon experienced problems with stomach ulcers. He'd probably be quite relieved to get his hands on 1970s-era medicine for ulcer relief. No relief for his "Spanish Ulcer", however; the name for the enduring partisan warfare over occupied Spain!

The title is a reference to a popular (but untrue) legend that Napoleon once ordered the massacre of Ottoman Turkish prisoners because he had a cold, and said "Ma sacre toux!" ("My damned cough!") which was heard as "Massacrez tous!" ("Kill them all")

The truth was he just ordered them to be killed so his forces wouldn't be slowed, harassed, or attacked on their retreat back to Egypt. Grim.
