@jfmezei Yeah, you see a decent number of people with speed skates. This year and last year they've really upped the quality of the ice (or the weather has better cooperated) and it's been *really* nice to skate on, even with just normal skates. I feel like they have to have actively started doing something differently that has resulted in ice that's so much more smooth.

@nyxallocer I suspect that the closer corollary would be whether the Ukrainian populace writ large would have expressed those concerns about the wellbeing of the Russian people - I suspect the answer would be pretty strongly tipped toward the "don't care" position. Now there are countries (Greenland, Canada, Cuba, Columbia, etc) whose people are looking at the USA and wondering if our nation is going to attack theirs.It's much easier to take a broad view when your homeland isn't under threat of attack.

@bjornqc @dyckron For safety's sake, you would ideally like to be further out. 250m-500m or longer is effectively impossible to pinpoint location depending on where you are, and gives you a significant advantage for escape. 100m is closer than many think.This is all hypothetical and I want to be clear that no one should do this.
