    Amazing! Dad died almost one year to the day after being diagnosed, and it was a truly horrific year.

      @Natasha_Jay without wanting to downplay the importance of this, in such a small study, this is really a case of “50% of the time, it works all the time”.

      Those who responded survived! How many responded? “Only” 50%.

      But of course, 50% is much better than 0%! Super exciting to even get to that point!

        @Natasha_Jay The story of the woman behind #mRNA vaccines (Katalin "Kati" Karikó) is quite something. She had to fight so hard to do her research. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katalin_Karikó

          @mastodonmigration @CStamp @Natasha_Jay Losing a parent is hard under any circumstances. I’m so sorry you had to go through that, but I’m glad he had you.

            @Natasha_Jay @purplepadma

            The article seems to say the vaccine is for operable cases of pancreatic cancer.

            My husband has finished six months of Folfirinox. It shrank the inoperable tumours by 25%. Six months was as much toxicity as his body could handle—neuropathy—so now it's Capecitabine until the tumours develop resistance. One of the nurses unintentionally mentioned that a year of Capecitabine would be a very long time.

            Please don't reply to this. You'll make me cry and I don't want to.

              @Natasha_Jay I lost a friend to pancreatic cancer about a year ago. He went to the doctor with a stomach ache and wound up with a terminal diagnosis. He took the treatments and got a few more months, but those were hell for him and his family. I sure hope this new mRNA vaccine works. It will stop a lot of misery.

                @Natasha_Jay My tinfoil hat theory is the blow back from mRNA research was a bunch of folk who make money off traditional cancer treatments, saw what could be done and wanted to pump the breaks.
                When they initially started talking about this, my first thought was that this would be a game changer for cancer treatment. Then the politicians got involved....

                @Gh0stlyM0use @Natasha_Jay it’s mostly the “wellness”/supplement industry. Most normies are somewhat receptive to crackpot arguments but quickly stop doing that when life or death is involved.

                Having modern medicine actually cure cancer reliably would greatly diminish their business prospects.

                    This is of course wonderful news, but remember, Republicans and the DOGE crew cancelled 22 mRNA research projects worth $500 million. These discoveries will be fewer and farther between in the States.
