The cost curve gets very steep.
pulling out the numbers, a modern nation of 27m people or so is spending $35B per year on universal medical coverage, $22B on pharmaceuticals and $34B on medical infrastructure. That's to cover everyone
A scheme set up to specifically cover the needs of a higher requirements group is now covering 760 thousand, and now costs $51B. So 50% of the cost to cover 3% of the people.
But even within the NDIS, for every 100 people covered the lowest cost 50 are receiving $1 million in support, and the second 50 get $5 million.

When the person/carer giving the shower is paid $35 an hour, and the provider is paid $100 an hour even the dumbest politician should be able to see the problem ... but ...
