What newspapers are you still subscribing to?

The Globe and Mail. The Ottawa Citizen although the latter has less and less local news coverage

@petergleick I don't have any subscriptions but I make occasional donations to The Guardian and ProPublica. I use my library for a lot of periodicals/magazines.

@petergleick The Atlantic (unsure if I’ll renew), The Guardian, Scientific American (every few years), along with AP and Reuters, who do most of the non-local news reporting, plus a hyperlocal one.

Increasingly I’m subscribing to journalists such as: ProPublica, 404 Media, Allison Gill, Heather Cox Richardson, Molly White, Parkrose Permaculture, Popular Information, TechDirt, Truthout, and my public radio/TV stations.

@petergleick Is that just to support them or do you find value in them? I gave up on NPR years ago and for old school only follow BBC and AP Wire plus specialty Social media like hard core Discord news, were stuff is sourced by the people that read and discuss topics.

LA times is still oligarch media.

If it's owned by an oligarch or an aristocrat, or if it republishes articles by an oligarch or an aristocrat, you should never pay attention. No matter how interesting or even good the article is.

The NYT especially is good at employing a few good journalists to make sure people stay hooked but making sure their overall narrative is oligarch supporting trash.

@petergleick Sadly, I had to give up on The Guardian because of the transphobia coming out of some key personnel in the UK.
