With little progress to report on the $70-billion Wonder Valley artificial intelligence data centre project promised for northern Alberta, Kevin OβLeary has announced heβs developing a twin AI data centre project in Utah, also named Wonder Valley.
The projects require 15 GW of power (7.5 gigawatts each), to be deployed in phases. Both are close to methane gas infrastructure, and both involve land purchases of up to 13,000 acres.
No one is willing to answer my questions or provide details on either project.
For projects of this scale and impact on local communities and the environment, youβd think some transparency and accountability would be part of the plan.

Alberta total gross generation is 23GW.
Current DCR is 471MW
(Dispatched Contingency Reserve)Good fuckin' luck

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver They plan to power it totally off-grid, via methane gas turbines.

I read that, I find it difficult to believe, is all.
But okay, we'll take them at their word. The last gas plant I did work on was Chinook in Swift Current.
350MW plant that came in under budget at $605M completed in 2019 ($680M budgeted).
It would take 42 of them to do 15GW.
They'd use larger units and so on, so not a completely fair comparison, but this was also done before the supplier carnage and run up in inflation.
It just strikes me as complete pie in the sky thinking.

@Sir_Osis_of_Liver Yes, outlandish, is the word I keep thinking of to describe this. The question I have is why do some people believe the sales pitch? I can't figure it out.
And why are real companies like PCL, KPMG, and Gensler allowing their names to be associated with this...?
