The world has created this legend of ”the amazing gold mitalist”, and the whole stadium was full of celebrities, actors and stars that had flown to Milano to see The Famous #quadaxel no one else in the world is doing. And well, he is 21, of course he broke under the pressure. Because who wouldn’t.

I do feel sorry for the guy. But probably not as much as I should. I hope he comes back stronger after this. A better athlete and a better person. I might even start to like him if he does.

@saruwine @kaisla He's 21. I do not know if he considers himself a "god of skating" or not, but if he does, very likely he did not declare himself anything. Adults did that to him, when he was still a child. Even if he "loved skating" in his teen years and did it "of his own choice", how he approached it was adult responsibility.

@JankaWessman @saruwine He has told in interviews he would have chosen football if he could, but on the other hand he did choose ”quad god” as his somehandle and printed it on a shirt he wore all week in Milano before the competition.
But I agree, these kinds of images of self do not appear out of nothing in persons mind. It’s about how he’s talked about in media after kind of breaking the laws of competition, and how the hype goes way beyond normal big statements like ”talented” or ”great”.

@saruwine @JankaWessman But! On the brighter news the kazakhstani winner deserved the medal and his shock was very human. Usually the winners seem a bit more comfortable with the winning, and are somehow used to it, so that was very nice

@kaisla @JankaWessman Oh yes! The shock on Shaidorov’s face, as well as on Satō’s for his bronze medal, was a delight. And the way Yūma Kagiyama kept pointing to Satō on camera like “Look at him, isn’t he awesome?”
