Following its mention by @pluralistic, I’ve begun reading Madoff’s new book, The Second Estate.

Following its mention by @pluralistic, I’ve begun reading Madoff’s new book, The Second Estate. Early on, she observes the environment in which we’re living today “bears [a] remarkable resemblance to the tax system of prerevolutionary France.”
The book analyzes how in the last forty years #uspolitics has created a tax code that insured the rise of a new aristocracy. The only difference to 17th and 18th century France is the lack of royal titles.
What are we going to do about it?

The obvious answer to that would be: use the same tools that we used in France at the end of the 18th Century? I'm sure the plans are still available.

I’ve no real wish to introduce Madame La Guillotine to Trump and his toadies — contemplating the thought does give one a certain grim satisfaction, I’ll confess. -

He does, indeed. But I’m no fan of capital punishment. Even though there are many noble members of the new aristocracy who have committed capital offenses, not to mention high crimes and misdemeanors. -

Well give them royal titles, off course. Then show them to their seats on a trebuchet. -

We all bloody well know. <wink>Personally, I favor deep, dank, dark solitary confinement with a lifetime to contemplate their sins against humanity, not being particularly bloodthirsty.

Preferably aimed ^away^ from our shores. Maybe give them large rock or two as a going away present. -
