There is zero future for the internal combustion engine but only the US auto industry, manipulated by Trump, is failing to acknowledge that.

There is zero future for the internal combustion engine but only the US auto industry, manipulated by Trump, is failing to acknowledge that. This will cripple US auto production for decades, ceding the EV market to China and others.

@hzulla @petergleick Which is a double mistake for us (as Europe), given that we have no oil and have to buy it at high prices from countries that do not share our democratic values.

@hzulla @petergleick maybe the voters are all fucking morons.

@ncoinfo @hzulla @petergleick Cough!!
Whilst I agree broadly that developing home grown EVs is a good idea, I am of the opinion that Norway and the UK, generally share (at least as a concept) the democratic values that Europe as a whole aspires to.
What I didn't know until now are that there are other European countries that produce crude oil:

https://www.cnbc.com/2026/02/01/ev-pullback-factories-jobs-south.html@petergleick This has already happened.
Musk is clearly losing the ball with Tesla with Tesla now having been passed by BYD as the company producing most EVs and passed by a long margin.
Other US vehicle manufacturers have cut back EV production, stopped making products (Ford F-150 EV) and/or are struggling to sell their products.
If the USA continues to retreat into the post truth kingdom phase of empire then ICE vehicles will continue to be built there until oil production in the US stops.

@hzulla @petergleick If I had money I would sue him because we have a right for health and air quality would be much better with electric cars only. -

@the_wub @hzulla @petergleick Oops, I forgot Norway, mea culpa.
Anyway, it remains a small producer and cannot make Europe sovereign in terms of oil production.
Most of our consumption is actually imported from the Middle East (or worst Russia).
(As for the UK, no offence, i love this country ans his people, but since Brexit, they are no longer really part of Europe). -
