Fedi moderation sucks:
Imagine I have @ aryansoldier1488 @ 14words dot com on my replies.
I block this person, but if they have a follower in mastodon dot social, their reply will still appear there.
Furthermore, if I report them, the report only goes to my instance… and theirs. Nowhere else -
Reply control ONCE ITS EXTENDED ENOUGH will improve the situation but it wont fix it

Blocklists are a patch, and have other social problems. I think they are useful but here is the deal:
A blocklist is “ive done this you should do it too”
A true fix for fedi would be a method of sharing reports with trusted servers -

#Bear-in-mind-blocklists-have-been-born-due-the-limitations-of-current-fedi-tools“I as an administrator trust this server and they trust me too so reports SELECTED BY THEIR ADMIN TEAM shall be forwarded to my admin team”
that way, the initial case would get said user (or server) fully blocked quite quickly. -

Even now, clearly problematic accounts and instances are not being blocked because the Fediverse largely adheres to an American/Muskian understanding of freedom of speech. It's just hiding behind technical arguments.

Most of the times, reports arent as clear as “aryan soldier 1488 at 14words” (how many dog whistles can you spot)

Sometimes its someone being annoying. And you will want them blocked. But other admins may not! And that’s their right! Not everyone can be right unlike you.
Thats the limiting factor of a blocklist. Its a good thing to know who other people has blocked. But you not always know why nor gravity

I disagree, good fedi instances dont act like that. There will be fedi dramas, but thats another different thing

@gabboman that's a current problem throughout the entire Fediverse. That's why I like the instance block feature, because 90% of admins don't do a good job. They would also accept X as an instance.
