@luna@lunar.place Hardcoding.

@luna@lunar.place Hardcoding.
@flesh@transfem.social @luna@lunar.place even without hardcoding, this sounds like they are probably using standard XDG desktop portals. but the gnome one hard depends on Nautilus for file/folder picker/opener functionality, so if you don't have nautilus, it fails, and probably returns an error. and maybe hytale was assuming the method was infallible

@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud @flesh@transfem.social i mean you can't have the gnome protal without nautilus installed, and if they're going through proper apis they should just be getting the correct system portal

@luna@lunar.place @flesh@transfem.social well yeah but "the correct system portal" can be gnome in some cases? like. There Exist Linux Desktop Systems With Gnome Portal And No Nautilus. the file picker just does not work on these systems.
I might be misunderstanding the implications of what was patched? I am assuming the cause of the issue based on one patch note. I never actually saw the issue; I haven't played Hytale yet.
my point is that it doesn't seem too implausible that Hytale devs assumed that "if the file picker interface is present, it works". and GNOME portal + no Nautilus, is pretty much the only common case where there is a broken file picker interface. -

(unless some weird obscure distro fucked something up) -
