@Strandjunker I'd vote for making the day an international holiday that Trump is removed from the White House in handcuffs.

@Strandjunker How about we make election day on a Sunday, like almost every other democracy everywhere, so people don't have to skip work or rush to or from work.
-
@Strandjunker I'd much rather have a fully "vote by mail" system in every state than a national holiday.
That means ballots are automatically sent by mail to all registered voters. Completed ballots can be mailed back or taken to an official drop box. The system should also include provisions for homeless voters, voters with disabilities who can't use paper ballots, etc.
An old article on this:

How is anonymity ensured with this method?
I'm from a country where voting is guaranteed to be anonymous, so I look at this and feel a bit weird.

Indeed, voting—as a sign of a vibrant democracy—deserves to be celebrated much more than deceased presidents.
But the incumbent president certainly holds the opposite view.

A 4 day weekend so everyone has a chance to vote.

The article I linked has a few details about that but for more info here's a link to the FAQ for Oregon elections website. I attached a screenshot of that specific section. -

That sounds very reasonable. I wouldn't mind if they implemented the same here, tbh.
I had to make a tough decision on the last election because they changed the place of voting to somewhere inaccessible for me, and the only disability accommodation they've come up with was taking the urn outside and making me vote in front of people, and therefore my vote wouldn't be secret.

@Strandjunker B b but then the GQP would never win again because many more people would be able to get away from work to vote! (especially those who live paycheck to paycheck in hourly jobs)
Oh right…. That would be a very good thing.

I'll give you one guess why it isn't on Sundays.
-
@Strandjunker Or make today a day worth actually celebrating and add election day.

@Strandjunker How about no more elections and no more permanent positions of power?

we have veteran's day on nov 11 *right there* next to our current bullshit election day. it's already a federal holiday
we could sell it as "honor those who fought for our right to vote by voting"
it has to be a day off for everyone of course
-
I'll give you one guess why it isn't on Sundays.
@Enema_Cowboy Yeah but it is in the Constitution that there is separation. Churches should not dictate. Want to go to Church on Sunday? Then vote before or after.
Does the pastor, rabbi, imam or other tell you how to vote? Tax them!

@Strandjunker I'm definitely in favor of this excellent idea. -

@benroyce @Strandjunker I think voting needs to be a two day affair, with a mandated time off for everyone.
So places like hospitals can schedule.

i like that
*someone* has to be working, no escaping it
so make it 2 days so the absolutely essential work can be covered by a coworker, then the next day, reversed

@benroyce @Strandjunker Yeap, this.
Also, voting is mandatory.
You can abstain all you want, but you HAVE to show up and cast a ballot as such.
