    @jerry Is it just me or has the server been a bit like a ghost town recently? I suspect you might say this is one of the low periods that come and go.

    It seems like there are more lurkers than participants. My guess is that this is not a primary account for a lot of new people, if they stay.

      @AAKL I’ve gotten feedback that the fediverse has become concentrated doom and people are leaving to protect mental health 😞

        @jerry Wow. So, it's more widespread. That's unfortunate. Is this about politics, then?

          @AAKL I think that is part of it. I also think there is a collective homeostasis for humans in a group just wanting to be angry jerks toward one another and there isn’t enough β€œsignal” to drown out the β€œnoise” for some people here. Lots of people going to threads and bsky now.

            @jerry @AAKL

            An alternative explanation is that the fediverse makes rage-baiting unprofitable.

            Less advertising revenue to be had from those lacking a dopamine addiction on the fediverse.

            What people are perceiving as "doomerism" & "excessive negativity" might be a reality-informed call to action about the existential threats the human race faces

            I want a curated existence where I scroll through pictures of pets & fun hobbies, but the real world isn't like that now

            It's a "Heads Up!" era
