20 days ago my love had surgery, after a CT showed one of four parathyroid glands was hyperactive.
That caused very high calcium levels combined with low phosphates, dangerous in the long term. (1/3) -
After surgical removal of such glands, a few delicate weeks follow because calcium level could plummet (and muscles like the heart need calcium to work), since the remaining three glands are often atrophied (hers were).
Luckily, those slackers immediately got back to work and daily blood drawings (she’s been such a patient little soldier), now weekly, showed her levels immediately and steadily normalize. (2/3)
I didn’t share this before because I didn’t want to jinx it, but this afternoon the important piece of information we were waiting arrived: the histological report confirms everything is fine, it was an adenoma with no sign of malignancy (which they told me to expect, but still, knowing and hoping, not the same thing!)
I’m so happy she got good care and took it in reasonably good spirits, and so relieved that everything is okay! (3/3)
