The 17 inches of snow we got 2 weeks ago today is compressed but still there, in many places still a foot deep.

The 17 inches of snow we got 2 weeks ago today is compressed but still there, in many places still a foot deep. In fact every morning when I go out to feed the birds I still walk in the deep, uneven and icy footprints I made in the snow that morning. It got down to 1°F this morning, about -17°C with wind. It will take a long period of warm weather before we see the ground again!

Meanwhile I have on my calendar for tomorrow to check whether the red-winged blackbirds have returned from the south. I hope for their sake they haven't!

#birds@nancywisser I saw some just yesterday, but I wasn’t able to get a photo. Of course I’m in a very different climate from you.
