    I don’t know how I didn’t see this last winter but there’s a lovely witch hazel in the garden. I bought one last spring thinking the garden needed one. It can always use another though. The flowers remind me of fireworks bursting.

      Beautiful.

      We are in the depths of winter cold here, but we’ve gone through a number of freeze-thaw-extreme-cold cycles since November that will almost certainly result in some dead perennials in our garden this spring. I might see if I can find a native version of witch hazel as a replacement this year.

        @helenclayton they're so magical. I've never seen one in person and I love it when they start appearing on my timeline here.

          @dillyd aren’t they. This one is in my sight line when I’m standing at the hob so no idea how I missed it before. I can’t think it wouldn’t have flowered. The other one I bought is orange (will take a pic) but I’ve put it in the wrong place so I’ll relocate it. They provide a splash of colour at an otherwise grey time.
