@teapot_ben I'd go for a refurb Pixel 7.
@davep I did consider a refurb pixel, but the 7 is already getting on a bit. Wish they will made a current model similar to that design.

Ok Fedi, what's the least terrible budget Android phone these days?
Having to finally give in and get one for my mum, only for very basic use (mainly still just calls and texts).
~£200
Fairly clean Android OS (or is easy to disable all the bloat)
Not too big (small arthritic hands)
Reasonable performance but good battery life
Long support for security patches at leastAny opinions on the OnePlus Nord CE5? Thanks
@teapot_ben I usually go with the Motorola G series in this segment. Long support usually is a problem though, with those and most other offerings I encountered except for flagship phones. No opinions on screen size, at least they don't seem bigger than most of the devices out there and I'm unsure whether there really are meaningful /smaller/ devices. -

@teapot_ben Google and Samsung are the best for long term security support
The GSM phone finder is great. Can put in your criteria including physical size and see what's the smallest that meets your needs -

@z428eu thanks, the Motorola offerings were also in my list to consider. I was probably leaving towards OnePlus initially because I've had a couple of their phones in the past, but they were flagship models with good custom ROM support, so probably not comparable anyway.

@teapot_ben Moto G75 has a long support cycle (5 years remaining) and is cheap. A bit on the large side, though.
My last two phones have been Motorola and it's okay bloatware-wise. There's some, but not unmanageable. And it's not entirely Chinese.

@teapot_ben My wife wanted a phone for Phonecalls and txt. So I found a dumb phone. Costs almost nothing.

@VickForcella thank you. The trouble is that dumb phones seem to be getting worse. She's had Nokia phones for years, but each newer one seems to be lower quality and have more problems doing the basics well.
Hence the reluctant move to a smartphone.

@teapot_ben The phone I bought for my wife was an Alcatel 3082x and she is very happy with it. It's a flip-phone, I am jealous.
She hands over the phone when the cashier at the supermarket asks for a phone app. Fun.
