”42% of Danes want to try alternatives to Big Tech. 68% would like to reduce their screen time. But far fewer act on it.

Habits hold us back. Network effects bind us to the same platforms as everyone else. This only changes if we shift collectively. When we shift together, new habits become easier to maintain.

When enough of us shift simultaneously, alternative platforms gain the critical mass they need. When we act collectively, change is possible.”

Before I could pick my 2026 goal for #DanmarkSkifter, I did a digital status. I was mildly surprised when I saw my 2025 digital changes together. I looked at the list and thought: ’Tell me you hang out in the Fediverse without telling me you hang out in the Fediverse.’

    From Outlook to Tuta
    From Office to Libre
From MS Authenticator to Ente Authenticator
    From Google Play to F-Droid
    From Spotify to AntennaPod
    From Firefox to Vivaldi
    From DuckDuckGo to NoAIDuckDuckGo
    And I bought a back-up drive.

’Denmark Switches.’ A national campaign to collectively move off Big Tech. March 20th is Big Switch Day. I’ve named my goal now. I’m already almost deMicrosofted, except for my photo archive. I moved to Libre & Tuta mail and have been purging photos as I await the release of Tuta drive. Now I’m committing myself to just get the photos off OneDrive and on to my computer, that I own, in my house, by March 20th. Then I’ll delete Microsoft. Then I’ll boast about it on the Fediverse.

@Flatus Tak. Jeg har også prøvet Ente. Den har mange super features. Jeg kørte dog ind i to (for mig) udfordringer.

@CiaraNi Nice ! Halfway that road, not fully yet.
Android is the weak point, need to figure that out.
Special for Maps for the few times we still need a car.
Laptop and PC are older ones. Running very smooth with Linux, no Big Bros there anymore.

@hanktank61 Every move helps. We were entangled in and by these solutions for years and decades, no wonder it takes time to move. I was so overwhelmed by the need to move Everything All At Once that I did nothing. Then I got so cross at the constant enshittification that I decided to just move different things at my own pace in a way that I could manage. 'Something better than nothing.' Bit by bit, we get there.

@sebastian @Flatus Thanks for the tip. I did browse around in NextCloud's solutions but couldn't see a simple off-the-shelf one for a non-tech person like me who just wants it to plug-and-play work. I've been waiting to see Tuta's drive. Then the DanmarkSkifter campaign nudged to me to stop faffing around - get off OneDrive now, get the photos backed up, then pick the right cloud solution after that. Otherwise I'll never take that final step.

Ideer?

I wasn't trying to be pedantic btw. It's just that we have the same setup and even though I DO remember (I told myself "this is a thing on the first sunday of the month") for the past months life got in the way.

And then on Friday evening my laptop crapped out.. I eventually fixed it but it would've been very frustrating to have the backup disk be very much out of date.

@CiaraNi helt ok, jeg bruger filen.io som en daily driver på min Linux maskine. Og jeg har ikke noget at klage over.

@irgndsondepp I'm pretty certain some people here would appreciate a tiny manual 😉

@chris It feels quite liberating. And oh the relief of getting away from ads and AI as much as possible!
