Unfortunately the relative quiet of the last few days is over.

@inthehands @srvanderplas Those of us outside MN can call our members of Congress to demand that they do not vote for any appropriationS bills that don’t rein in ICE.
@DataAngler @srvanderplas
To be clear, I consider “rein in ICE to be the watered-down compromise position.” My starting point is “zero out the current DHS’s entire budget,” and we can negotiate from there. -
@inthehands Solidarity from Vermont. We have a protest planned for Friday in the "downtown" area of my small town.
@jessamyn
Thank you! Everything helps, and nothing small is actually small. -
It’s hard for me to imagine more clear-cut defiance of the injunction. These shits are trying to run the legal blockade by pretend pretending it doesn’t even exist — and Bovino is not only fully aware but physically present for it. Contempt of court is completely meaningless at this point; I dare any judge to prove me wrong.
@inthehands Solidarity
from California. -
@inthehands @robcinos
My Senators will block funding.
I don't know how to pressure the ones who often vote with the Republicans. -
@inthehands @ohmu Primaries and scaring the shit out of them at town halls.
Drive all of these high school cafeteria book report motherfuckers out of the party. Playtime is over.

I beg you, wherever you are, to show some kind of solidarity with Minneapolis-St. Paul this Friday:
(1) SHUT DOWN NORMAL: Whatever your normal Friday is, find a way to pause it, interrupt it, halt it…even if only a little. Normal life cannot continue unabated while this is happening. It is intolerable, and we must not tolerate it.
(2) TAKE ACTION: Whether it is marching, yelling, organizing, forming that Signal group, taking that observer training, making connections with neighbors, just having a potluck…do •something•.
Please.
Just because we're not in Minneapolis/St. Paul doesn't mean we can't go out on the sidewalk with signs of support, too.
Personally, I'm calling and writing. (I might get kicked out of my Assisted Living Facility in Florida if I carried a sign. 🤬 )
-
@inthehands I saw someone saying that on Reddit yesterday. Crazy shit. In the same subreddit, someone asked how to make ICE agents look ridiculous at anti-ICE protests. Sure, that would be funny. But maybe look for strategies to hold them accountable instead. Catching them on film doing a victim dump would be something.
@mattijamsa
Making ICE look ridiculous •and• filming them have been two of the very most effective resistance strategies so far. Both are good and crucial work. -

Everything you can do matters! -
Unfortunately the relative quiet of the last few days is over. ICE is all over South Minneapolis this morning. They just smashed an observer’s car window and kidnapped them right outside my corner coffee shop.
@inthehands what community organizations take donations and are correctly helping the situation there?
-
There’s a lot of circumstantial evidence that ICE is gearing up to directly target schools here. Without getting into details: they are casing schools and posing as community members.
While ICE has already come onto school grounds on a handful of occasions, include the terrible incident at Roosevelt High School, they so far have stopped short of directly targeting schools and schoolchildren.
We expect that to change. Everyone is on high alert.
@inthehands Seattle schools are already on alert, people (including me) have been making and distributing whistle packs, they're to the point of being kits and there's a map of dropoff/pickup locations at businesses, and so on:

They're winding up to attack us, but there aren't enough of them to do this everywhere. We hear you, and we are getting ready.
-
Meanwhile, we’re getting some really disturbing reports in neighborhood chats of ICE dumping injured detainees in parks. We no idea what the hell ICE is doing. This has happened in multiple parks on multiple days in different parts of the city: two confirmed, multiple others who may be part of the pattern. One of them had a fractured skull.
The temperature here has not been above freezing for over a week.
@inthehands sounds like they’re working up to Starlight Tours (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatoon_freezing_killings; I grew up there)

@robcinos @inthehands
Well, taking Arizona, if we primary Mark Kelly we'll just get somebody who will lose to a R. I door knocked in AZ. The politicians there really do just reflect the voting public.
But, Schumer and Gillibrand? -

Thank you. Preparing your own local community is one of the most important things you can do to help. -

@inthehands Watching with horror from the east coast, but things could be about to get very local. ICE activity is picking up in my state. It all feels like we're living in a video game and the agents are acting out their fantasies in their parents' basement – only this time it's with our lives.

@irvingreid
Oh, those were horrible — and yes, this is exactly the kind of thing they’re working up to.One of my theories is that these are people they injured and then found out they’re US citizens or otherwise not deportable.

@klayzer
Yeah. I urge you to start forming community-based groups and connections now. Even stuff as simple as teaching your less-tech-savvy folks how to install Signal or introducing yourself to neighbors ICE might racially profile will pay huge dividends in a crisis. -

We put up a lawn banner citing Leviticus 19:34: (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%2019%3A33-34&version=NRSVA). And as the director of our weekly community meal program, I spend a lot of time thinking about how to try keep our guests safe.
My husband and I also participate regularly in vigils on our town common. It all feels like so little, but at least we're visible.
