@Hawaii hmm I know about #asstodon and @owlsintowels but not sure if there's a #gerbildon or ratsInHats account (etc) yet. Then again it's probably only a matter of time!

@thenexusofprivacy
I voted for the things I'm predominantly more interested in, but really, I'm interested in almost all of it. Don't care about sports, but the rest of it... -

There is a very unused #RodentsOfMastodon tag. I’m sure how to revive it as I don’t have rodents to contribute but maybe some hype so others use it.
Edit to correct hashtag spelling

@Hawaii
And probably RabbitsOf, BunniesOf, MiceOf, etc. -
What are you looking for in social media? (3/N)
The first in a series of polls ... you can check more than one response, and if you've got other suggestions please leave them in the replies.
@thenexusofprivacy @josemurilo
I ticked 3, 5 and 10 but mostly it’s a space for seeking solace at what we’re doing

@thenexusofprivacy Small note: We have #AcademicChatter. Not as big as AcademicTwitter but we have lots of academics and scientists here.
-
@Tooden This. And we have Fedigroups - everbody can make one! https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-groups-on-the-fediverse/

@raederle Perhaps it's unused because of the spelling? #RodentsOfMastodon You find more at #rodents and #RatsOfFediverse.

@ansate @hollie @edumerco @CaitlinWaddick @dphiffer @django @sam @ktoddbrown @MarieVC
Could we use groups to: a) communicate privately and or publicly within working groups? b) create an opt-in social.coop members only group?
Do we already use this, and I just didn't know ;-)? Do you already use this feature elsewhere? -

We migrated to Zulip for private conversations last summer. Are you on Zulip? -

@thenexusofprivacy I come here mostly to listen to experts talk truthfully about current affairs, without the pressure of 'bling'.

It's not just a rhetorical question, I really am curious!
You can respond with a reply to this post, via the pol.is conversation here, or -- if you're on fedi -- in the polls below. I'll write up the results later this month.
@thenexusofprivacy no algorithms.

Seems like you can create a group there, accept members, who follow it, then posts to that address notify followers. Maybe I will set one up for fun and see how it works.

@Matt_Noyes @CaitlinWaddick @hollie @edumerco @dphiffer @django @sam @ktoddbrown @MarieVC Fwiw, my understanding is that fedi groups basically boost things that mention them, not an alert. You would get the same effect (non privately) from following a hashtag. Also since they work by boosting, i don’t think you can have private groups
