@dyckron It's a shame the BBC author hadn't read this before writing their article: https://www.theringer.com/2024/12/03/tech/headlight-brightness-cars-accidents

It's basically the diesel scandal for car headlights (and it's a shame more reporters haven't picked up on it).

@skyglowberlin @dyckron The article also hints at this. The brightness is not the problem. The fact that these things are pointed right at people's faces. THAT is the problem.

I remember driving a rental a couple of years ago. It was able to detect oncoming traffic and it *automatically* adjusted its beams so they couldn't directly shine in the other traffic user's face.

So it's definitely possible to do that.

@rozeboosje @skyglowberlin @dyckron The headlights are obnoxious, but the thing that REALLY pisses me off are the cop cars with a dozen goddamn ultra bright brake lights...I've had to pull over because all I could see were spots after ending up behind one of those assholes in traffic...

The emergency lights are one thing, I can mostly understand those being bright enough to see from the other end of town, but I really don't think their regular lights need to be that bright when they're just headed to KFC for lunch. Ugh.

@admin @rozeboosje @skyglowberlin yeah, I know what you mean! Disorientation like getting hit with a prismatic spray spell in D&D
