I’m Avi Lewis and I’m running to be the next leader of the federal NDP. Very excited to be part of the Fediverse!
I’m running for NDP leader because it’s time for the NDP to return to its roots—fighting a system rigged for the rich that leaves the rest of us behind.

@smattymatty @avilewis As an Ontarian who lived through an NDP government whose own supporters (teachers) quickly turned on them, I'll pass, but can agree the choices aren't great. IMHO, the ONDP of the 90s was an unmitigated disaster of incompetent ideologues, and they've never recovered from it, but once in a while they get some good federal leaders like Jack Layton, hopefully they get another.

I'll be very curious to see how you and the NDP manage to navigate the next election cycle, there's a LOT to think about.
Of course your Dad was a big part of the political landscape when I was growing up. Back then I was pretty much Conservative when they were more centrist than today. He struck me as earnest and really committed to making things better for everyone, but I was young and doing well so what did I care?
Now, as I approach retirement and see so many people struggling to meet the same standard of living as their parents while others flaunt obscene wealth, and having experienced the benefits of a union while living in Europe, I'm much farther left than in my youth.
I think Mark Carney is the Prime Minister we need right now to navigate the international issues that will affect us for a few years. But I think the NDP can build strength by pushing for higher corporate taxes and a wealth tax - it won't affect us
