    Economist Mark Zandi says the job market has flatlined since April, linking the stall to tariff shock waves hitting manufacturing, transport and ag—plus hiring “chilled by uncertainty.”

    He adds that other factors are at play, including restrictive immigration policies, DOGE cuts, and artificial intelligence; however, he argues the global trade war’s fingerprints are all over the ailing job market. In his view, the quickest reset would come if the Supreme Court struck down the reciprocal tariffs
