@iFixit I used to work at an electronics shop where we sold these. We had a display model of the first generation where the touchscreen was laggy and slow. A fridge is supposed to last 20 years, why would you equip it with a tablet, when said tablet won’t be able to update in less than 3?

@iFixit so even if it doesn't break, a power outage locks me out? in a natural disaster, you won't be able to fill a cooler with your frozen shit and flee?

still better than being trapped in a burning Tesla, I don't understand why everyone seems to hate handles now.

@iFixit I cannot get over how *slowly* the door opens/closes.

this is literally useless in a kitchen. this is a fridge for someone who has never actually had to use a fridge themselves while cooking.

@iFixit I'm guessing only because Apple didn't make one themselves. 🙄

@iFixit Maybe Samsung build in UPC code scanners and will start selling product identification stickers to food packaging companies so that the fridge can identify the food inside it, and adjust the temperature for peak freshness of the produce and the ideal temperatures for the beverages, etc.

I'm reminded of @pluralistic story "Unauthorized Bread". How long before Samsung decides that their refrigerator will only chill Samsung-approved foodstuffs?

Samsung - it's not grandmas icebox - this is a (subscription based) AI-powered refrigeration platform! No subscription? Lock the door or turn itself off.

                        @iFixit Wait, but why?

I can understand voice controlled lights: You might be sitting far away from the switch... but if you need to open the fridge, you're already right there! This is so slower and more work then a manual door!

Actually anyone buying a device named
                          Samsung Family Hub Smart Fridge
qualifies for being killed by a hacked home device sooner or later.

@rysiek @iFixit had the same thought. when i do kitchen stuff, i am tearing the door open with a speed that i stop aging for a short time - multiple times.

@iFixit You kiddin me? Why on earth would I PAY for a fridge w/ a screen and voice control? A microphone in the kitchen. Next they offer you gesture control, too, to add a camera.

I see. Make the customer pay for

                                - the equipment to wiretap them
                                - a screen to play them adverts
                                - the power consumption of wiretap equipment and advertising

In exchange, save on a handle that would allow to access the contraption w/o electrical power in case of a power outage emergency.
