Advice needed: I will soon leave my beloved Huawei P30 Pro for a Fairphone 6 with /e/OS.
The only thing I will really miss is the camera: I shot amazing pictures with the Huawei, and I know that the Fairphone won't be the same.
So I was thinking about buy a proper camera, but I need it to be suitable for hiking.
Portable, light, easy to store in the backpack, and reliable. Budget around 500-600€.
    Any good one?

      @gilraen79

Generally any of these will be quite compact:

      • Fujifilm X100 series
      • Sony A series
      • Olympus OM or EP series mirrorless cameras

Idk about used digital cameras in general but in 2010s these cameras were fire and if you're not shooting pictures to print on a giant banner, older camera can be right for you.

Or you can say "fuck it" and go with film instead. There are amazing quality cameras out there and they also bring zen to your photography process with inability to see the actual result until much later.

For compact, I'd go for rangefinder cameras like Cannonet G-III QL17 or Contax G2. Or you can go even further with Olympus mju series cameras that offer virtually no control over camera settings but are very compact

@gilraen79 I was having the exact same question when moving to a Fairphone 3. Currently on an FP5, where the camera is already much improved. I went for a Panasonic TZ-101 (not available anymore, but maybe successors). I especially love the zoom, which I use a lot during hikes. Good luck!

@sichkovskyi not sure about film, I am so used to digital camera that I would like to keep going. I could buy one in the future, though, as soon as I get used to bring a camera along instead of a phone.
Thank you for all the advises!

@bergmeister thank you! The Panasonic seems exactly what I'm looking for, I'll check if there's something more recent but similar.

@gilraen79 @hiking @photography I can recommend the Sony RX100 VI (or later models). I myself own a RX100 VI which I use on my tours. The zoom is not as big as on the TZ cameras but it has the bigger sensor. I bought it on the secondhand market.

I second the suggestions so far. I like the small Olympus with interchangeable lenses. But the fixed lens ones like the Sony RX100 or Panasonic are much more convenient to carry at all times. A good EVF viewfinder makes a lot of difference for framing too. It really beats squinting at a screen on the back in bright sunshine.

@rl_dane yes, I have been thinking about switching to Fairphone for some time, and even I know it's a downgrade from the camera point, it's better this way.
I looked at the mirrorless, but I am afraid they might be too big, for me. I hike but also do ferrate, and something as compact as possible is mandatory. I think that the new Panasonic LUMIX TZ99 might be what I need.
