@benlockwood It can if it agrees so with its shareholders. There are whole classes of companies that do this.

@benlockwood What are (eg) B-Corps, or (UK) Community Interest Companies which are legal entities that specifically exist to do what you say is impossible? And you can write societal benefit causes into a normal company's M&A. I have direct experience with two of these.
