You prob know this already, but if you duck-search, you can go to a slightly different entry point at https://noai.duckduckgo.com to do web searches without AI slop dumping on you.

I see they've dressed up the landing page there! Now more obviously non-AI. I mean, it's a selling feature, so yeah, go to town guys.
(if you still google things, consider the duck search! it's worked well for me for years, and the non-ai version is a nice step forward).
@ottaross there is also duck.ai
would be funny to have noai.duck.ai
-
@ottaross I have the NO AI version set up as my preferred search engine
@darwinwoodka how did you do that?
-
@darwinwoodka how did you do that?
under "settings" "AI features" "disable duckai"

@darwinwoodka never mind, I see some helpful instructions in the thread.

@ottaross If you want to use a non-US search, there's:

@ottaross@mastodon.social
But they've also created (or maybe not recently?) a website:
yesai.duckduckgo.com -

@ottaross At this point no AI should be the default, and make the AI features opt-in.

@darwinwoodka @ottaross i'm using tor as my main browser, and on tor, i use duckduckgo with no ai, and i would recommend it to everyone by default

@ottaross I just use a search engine without AI, like Startpage

@ottaross I added it to my search assistant in Firefox as the default.
Just add it as https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?q=%s

@ottaross it seemed to also work without Javascript, but that was a redirect to html.duckduckgo.com/html which does work without Javascript and just became my default search engine
Unfortunately the noai page won't even render without Javascript

@ottaross I have used non-AI Duck Duck Go for several years now. It is my preferred search engine. No ads. No tracking. No data-sharing. No AI slop. A great video player that removes ads. It does everything I want and is way better than Google.

@ottaross If you can not configure this system-wide, like on iOS, go to the standard DDG page, use the gear icon / AI functions / Manage and turn off Duck.ai and Search Assist there, if you like.

@ottaross I recently discovered DuckDuckGo Lite.
It seems to be AI free and it's nice and clean. No graphics, no nothing. Just a low bandwidth search. The way search use to be! Check it out!
