@QasimRashid I lived in Chicago from 2017-2025 and never once hid that I was boycotting a company because of their ties to the Israeli government. To say these laws are ridiculous is a gross understatement. How do you police shopping habits in a country arguably more moulded by capitalism than any other nation on the planet? I'll give you that divestment and sanctions are much easier to enforce, but even policing divestment is monumentally stupid and difficult without getting comically draconian about it. If I run an organisation and the official reason I give for pulling the plug on funding something Israeli backed happens to not be a full throated condemnation, are they gonna interrogate me for making business decisions?

@QasimRashid governments most certainly do have rights. They differ from human rights, but they are rights all the same. For instance, the right to pass legislation and implement policies. One may like them to pass pro BDS legislation.

@QasimRashid Anti-BDS laws can also be anti-consumer: one might not care where some expendable item like clothing is made, but if you are buying something that might have to be repaired (car, dishwasher, etc.) you might want to avoid a company run, owned, and located by settlers in the West Bank, if only because of the risk that political instability could result in you not being able to get replacement parts. There's a similar argument for investments.
