@jwildeboer One of the things about is that you can get spare parts for it. There are coffee makers on the market that brew just as good a cup of coffee, but if you break any part of them, you need to buy a new maker - it might be cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix the Moccamaster, but I'm willing to pay a bit of premium for repair-readiness to hold on to a bit of peace of mind in the face of disposable consumerism...

@OtterSide I also love the fact that the Moccamaster has zero active electronics. No chips, no firmware, no connections. Just a big fat copper heater, a thermofuse and (since a few years) a simple thingy that switches off power after 40 minutes, as demanded by EU regulations on fire hazards. The whole user interface is two switches. That's it.

@jwildeboer My partners parents had some weird idea that their coffee had started tasting bad, so they must need new coffee machine. After spending a few MoccaMasters worth for new machines they went back to MM (and changed their coffee roast). So it is possible to spend even more than just one MoccaMaster!

I also like my Moccamaster.

It just works, makes very good coffee and needs nearly no maintenance.

You have to descale it once a month, that's all.

(I got it as a Christmas present from a loved one a few years ago. I almost got another expensive, complicated coffee maker, but I wanted something easy to maintain and not a "coffee Tamagotchi".)

Hot water dripped on a filter with grounded beans... I wondered what the difference could be. Temperature?
Or is it the nine holes in the dripping arm?
(or did I find an extra accessory)
And it looks like it's not picky about the pot you put under. These do break. Nice!

@bertkoor Temperature is one factor. The Moccamaster is consistent in that, from the first to the last drip. The 1500W heater makes sure of that. Second thing is the flow rate, which seems to be JustPerfect and, again, super consistent. I guess it's the simplicity that comes from overengineering to end at the absolute minimum needed.

@jwildeboer Moccamaster fan from Germany here... My mother is struggling (since I bought her one, with the pot not keeping the coffee warm). I used the one with the glass pot, so never had an issue. The one she uses is the KBGT. Any idea, which alternative that doesn't cost 90€ could be used?

@OtterSide While I wholeheartedly support that sentiment, I've yet to hear of people who'd need hard-to-find spare parts for their (filter) coffee maker. Apart from the glass jug, should they drop it.

But if that is important, there's also Braun Aromaster. They go for around 50€, last forever, and spare parts are available. My parents had one for over 20 years before they threw it out – not because it broke, but because they wanted a Moccamaster.🥴

We also swear by Moccamaster. They last about forever, spares are available when they don't, and they're proper old-school machines with no f***ing internet/bluetooth bullshit. Easily worth the price.
