    The article references the Flores Settlement which arose from a 1985 lawsuit brought against the Reagan administration over its inhumane treatment of a 15 year old who was fleeing the Salvadoran Civil War. Clinton admin settled the case in 1997, in agreement that established standards for treatment and release of minors detained in immigration enforcement context. Settlement also established monitoring protocols. 2/

      Flores Settlement requires the government to:
      • Detain minors in licensed facilities designed for their care.
      • Provide access to essential services, including healthcare, education, and family reunification.
      • Promptly release minors to family members or other qualified custodians whenever possible.

        With the Trump regime incarcerating unprecedented numbers of children in its ICE terror raids, the odds are extremely high that it is violating the Flores Agreement. Expect to see more reporting on this as attorneys responsible for monitoring compliance gather more information. These attorneys are adept at tracking seized minors and accessing relevant facilities. 4/

              I'm sure terror is a motivation, but they're also emulating their hero, Adolf, who carted infants off to Auschwitz and killed them.

                @heidilifeldman I disagree with the statement that this is a way to punish and terrorize immigrants. He terrorizes immigrants in order to punish US citizens for voting Democratic. Texas and Florida have the highest immigrant populations in the country, but they have Republican leaders. Minnesota (and now Maine) have Democratic leaders, that stood up to trump, and small immigrant populations. But that's where he does the most damage. He wants citizens to vote red this November so he can keep out of prison.

                  @heidilifeldman

                  In many of the Steven Spielberg movies, the nightmare scenario is monsters take children away from their parents. The happy ending is when the monsters are defeated, and the children are reunited with their parents.

                  Our administration is full of monsters.

                    @serfdeweb @heidilifeldman which in turn was emulating US abduction and murder of First Nations children and Jim Crow laws that treated African Americans as less-than-human. The US isn't just copying Hitler, it's being more intensely itself.

                      @SteveJB @heidilifeldman I believe in Minnesota for example, is where they don't tolerate and recorded those terrorist methods. In Texas and Florida might be worse but undocumented, and Republicans don't care

                          @serfdeweb @heidilifeldman I'm not saying it does? I'm just adding to the voices pointing out that Nazi Germany did not inspire all this in America, it was already there and indeed has inspired atrocity elsewhere. All the 'this is not my country' people are very wrong.
