People are sometimes surprised when I list one of my primary writing inspirations as fashion photography.

Fashion photography -- and I don't mean the catwalk stuff, I mean like editorials -- exist in an alternate universe where women are constantly sitting on every random thing in the environment and getting away with it like we're cats.

How did she stop traffic just to sit on a couple of taxis? Cat. Sitting on top of a mailbox? Cat. Edge of a rooftop? Cat. Climbing all over that guy and sticking her elbow in his face? Cat.

So you know, this is a really powerful fantasy for me as someone who as always felt like she's not allowed to take up space.

Also, it turns the most unlikely outfits into FASHION!

So I have this joke where, e.g., Felicia never learned to dress herself properly so she just wears whatever she thinks looks nice and is comfortable. And it's so bohemian and random that people think it's street fashion. Or they think she's a mentally ill homeless woman. Both of which are technically true!
