      @aesthr even as an older gen z, 2010s tech sucked too. They were building centralized, data mining, dopamine loop apps.

      It's just that people didn't realize they're getting screwed then. I did, however.

      And I wasted nearly a decade on big data crap 😭.

          @blackbird @aesthr I think I was suspicious of tech at least since the first iPhone. (Born in the late 90s, teetering between gen z and millennial.)

            @aesthr dude. Since the 80s.

            Still waiting on that paperless office.

            Also: I did not ask for Bluetooth toilet paper.

              @ozzelot
              I place this around 2014 when up until that point Schneier had thought and hoped that Obama was waiting for mid second term to course-correct technology companies, and then Obama never did, and after that as he had commented pre-2014, it was too late to be able to course-correct.

                @aesthr

                Tech has always been two wolves in a trench coat fighting over the steering wheel.

                Oh sorry, I mean; a bunch of nerds and scientists doing heroic humanitarian labours, a bunch of cynical billionaire bastards and their cretinous plans for exploitation and the credulous media who fed the public to the bastards and threw so much shade on the nerds.

                This process was never a one time thing, it is happening and has been happening for many decades.

                    @aesthr I say dude. I write dude. It's just a generic thing I do regardless of gender. If you found it offensive I apologize.

                    For me it's like a singular of 'folks'.

                      @aesthr Anything good happened despite big tech, not because of it.
