Jeff Bezos could literally have subsidized the Washington Post for 20 years at a TOTAL cost of a fraction of 1 percent of his net worth.

Instead he put 300 professionals out of work and destroyed the institution that inspired me and a lot of others to become journalists.
Anyway, fuck that guy.

How long would've the Melania movie financed the WAPO? -

Even Citizen Kane could afford to prop up a newspaper to defend the common man as a huge loss for 60 years and didn't blink -

How long would've the Melania movie financed the WAPO?@oneiros about nine months

Jeff Bezos obviously didn't buy the WAPO to make money or do journalism, so that leaves only one plausible reason why he would.
@bruce I dunno. It was a bit of reputation washing when he bought it back in 2013. And it was theoretically a money-maker with some investment. But then he got divorced and found a new toy and lost interest in his journalism toy. And then it became a liability in Trump 2.

@edbott 300 employees might be enough to buy the paper for bottom dollar and keep it afloat? I’ve seen it done before at a little machine shop where I grew up and they kept it afloat for quite a while.

@edbott And, as we saw with Lehmann, it doesn't really matter how prestigious the history of a given institution.
You kill it, and it's gone.
