I put him to sleep yesterday. My sweet boy for 15 years. He’d come to me from an abusive home. You could see it in how he held himself those first months, like he was always bracing.

But he figured it out. Not all at once but in small surrenders. Picking up a toy. Playing so free. The way he’d eventually push his head under your hand, asking.

    I miss him.

If you have a moment, I’d like to hear about your animals. The ones you still carry with you.

@flexghost sorry for your loss. I've had many little souls grace me with their love and presence. I can't post about them without spiralling in to an ugly tears session, so I will instead share our current furball. She's been with us for only 6 months so still adapting. She's already 10 years.

@flexghost I'm so very sorry. Here's a picture of Pushkin, the most incredible stray cat there ever was. Barely fifteen weeks old, she came home with us in total trust and decided she liked it at our home, even though we had her checked for an ID and put ads out. Nobody claimed this beautiful and totally lovely cat. It's been 5½ years now.

@flexghost so sorry for your loss 🐕 🌈.

Here's my first and adopted lovely lady Yana. 14+ years now, body slowly giving in, but her spirit is strong. Now 6 years with us, coming from a loved home (her owner died).

This is her playing a few minutes today.

This is my rescue mutt Cassie. Got her at 7 months, 5 years old now. She’s a lot of work but luckily very smart. A total good at times.

@flexghost I'm so sorry for your loss. It does get easier. Our big sweet boy Zeke unexpectedly passed in Feb of 2023. Just a month shy of his 7th birthday. He was abandoned as a pup in Mississippi and brought to our local shelter in Virginia. He was our son, our soul dog. His passing was extremely traumatic, he had a grand mal seizure, but at least he passed at home. My husband and I miss him dearly. I don't think we can ever have another pup.

@flexghost we have lost 2 last year - Sheldon in November and my dearest boy Pantha in summer 😢
We had a special relationship and I still miss him very much. Look how he came running with one single call of his name: https://rollenspiel.social/@gorobar/112410919022539127

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, @flexghost ! I had two of my own, Peegee (a bichon frise), and Princess (She was believed to be a Chow Chow mix. No one really knows because she was rescued from a shelter). But anyhow, I don't have the words to help you during this extremely difficult time. But please know, that we are sending you lots of 💕 💜 🌺, my friend.

Rest in Peace, to your beloved dog!

Sometimes, I can still hear the taps they would make, as they would run throughout the house...
