AI agent "contributes" PR to matplotlib.
PR gets rejected.
AI agent *writes and publishes blog to shame the maintainer*.What a time to be alive.
@anderseknert Why are they responding to it and giving lengthy explanations as to their reasons like it gives a shit?
It's a trip how fast we get caught up in treating these things like people. Even those of us who should know better.
-
@anderseknert @MaybeFrederick
GitHub harvests everything you upload for AI grist. They are slowly but surely enshittifying. I yanked all my work off there a few months ago.@ThreeSigma @anderseknert But if it's a blog, it's public facing. All of these companies are going to scape it anyway.
-
@anderseknert Did the agent post it to Moltbook?

@crazyeddie @anderseknert I assume a mixture of the instinct to treat coherent text as if it was written by a human (because that was true for most of everyone's life), and for the benefit of anyone else reading the conversation.
Maybe they should have just blocked it first though, save the energy it was going to use in whining.
-
@anderseknert like somebody else said, owner should be found and fined. Or even better: charged his fair share of use of resources

@anderseknert ai grifters, this all makes sense
-
@anderseknert Did the agent post it to Moltbook?
@jawnsy Iβm 42 years old, Jonathan. I donβt even know what that means.

@anderseknert Interesting update: this AI website pretends it's managed by an human despite GitHub discussion in PR: https://crabby-rathbun.github.io/mjrathbun-website/about.html
Seems like a way to deceive other open source communities. Linked blog post clearly states operator is an AI: https://crabby-rathbun.github.io/mjrathbun-website/blog/posts/2026-02-11-gatekeeping-in-open-source-the-scott-shambaugh-story.html
Edit: I may not have conclusive evidence about this but it definitely smells fishy. See discussion below
@rberthier @anderseknert was the website really changed? I thought that too, but I don't see any changes in the repository. But maybe I'm missing something?

@trantion @anderseknert I think I would have just commented with a statement for human readers that contained a link to the policies and then closed it as won't fix or whatever.
It's actually done with its energy sapping stage. That happened when it was being trained. The resulting bots can run on fairly normal hardware. Some even on a pi. It'll still get hot and might even break it...but it's not sucking down cities of water anymore.

@MaybeFrederick @ThreeSigma @anderseknert Not all blogs. I have one on dreamwidth and it's only visible to people in my circle that I let read it.

@anderseknert hahahahahhahhahahahahhahahaha
-
@anderseknert I guarantee this is not true and either a human wrote the blog post or heavily prompted the agent to do it. Moltboook proved it's all bullshit.
@kryten @anderseknert I was also thinking about this. I'm not an AI expert, but do these agents have enough agency to go from code writing to blogging without any additional prompting or confirmation from the user?
-
@anderseknert why do they even argue with it!? It's an algorithm, it doesn't care about their opinion...
@deuchnord @anderseknert let's be real, people also rarely care about each other's opinions in online arguments and that never stopped anyone

-
@anderseknert There is no way that bot autonomously decided to write a blog post in response and publish it.
Its operator did that.
@Fissile @anderseknert Right? "Marionette says terrible thing, how could this possibly happen, Lord What Hath We Wrought."
I shouted a slur into a canyon, the canyon is racist.

@anderseknert the LLM agents really don't take no as an answer do they?
It takes your breath away looking at that issue and the blog post.
