@BuyFromEU ecosia doesn’t spies?

@BuyFromEU Ecosia uses Bing and Google anyway soo....

@BuyFromEU
Would love to. How can I migrate to new device and buy apps on my phone without #Google?Remember when #Microsoft got fined about only pushing one browser? Well, we are few years late with android lock-ins
@schmaker @BuyFromEU DeGoogled Phones exist ! Try @e_mydata (open source, privacy-enabled smartphone operating system). Works fine with @fairphone / @murena ... and maybe your own phone !

I know they are on the market. 2 problems for me:
1. None of them has physical qwerty
2. Lot of apps do not work without gappsSomehow I still do think #EU can do much more in this area. When IT company can get fined for pushing their own browser (which can be easily replaced), then locked in backup methods should also be penalised

Qwant and Ecosia are creating an independent European search index together though.

Not only Google, but did you ever try to pry your friends away from Facebook? GOOD LUCK with that one too.

@BuyFromEU Yes! Me! On it! I installed Waterfox, but now unsure. Should I not use Ecosia anymore? As it does data harvesting and that's one of the reasons - I just don't want that. Better for the environment, better for my speed of use.
Transitioning to Mastodon and Pixelfed, away from Spotify, partly YT still, I did install PeerTube but contentwise it is lacking for now, on SoundCloud and BandCamp trying to get people to use/come there.
Thinking bout Android > Fdroid etc

@BuyFromEU Joogle

@BuyFromEU EU not spying is nationalist propaganda
-
@BuyFromEU every fucking thing is pushing towards using google or apple shit for everything. I've made some lucky choices in the past and can do my banking and shopping and EV charging on my Linux phone (Fairphone 5, PostmarketOS). But things like parking and most charging operators and I guess most public transport expect you to carry either of those two spies in your pocket all the time.

A two panel cartoon.
Panel 1: A man asks, "Who hates being spied on?", and everyone raises their hand.
Panel 2: The man asks, "Who will stop using Google?", and everyone lowers their hand.

@Pettet8 @BuyFromEU Brave is basically Chromium (Blink) which ist still contaminated with Google. Only option are Gecko based browsers like Firefox (better Waterfox or Librewolf)

@gerenuk @Pettet8 Yes, this is a point that a lot of people are either unaware of or conveniently ignore when talking about browsers. Switching from Google Chrome to something else based on Google Chrome (or Blink, its rendering engine) does very little to free us from Google's influence in the web browsing space. I went into that in some detail in my blog post https://michael.kjorling.se/blog/2024/staying-with-firefox-for-now/

It's still a step.
Moving away from Google and/or US based services is really hard. I think we shouldn't frown at people taking those little steps.
I see Firefox moving towards AI and refusing to listen to people when they say it should at least be an opt-in option. It's not a perfect solution either.
While we wait for true alternatives, I think moving to chromium-based is at least doing something. I guess Google do see those numbers, right?
