I really encourage folks to check out the document he sent me. Once you know it's fake, the mistakes are easy to spot. But it still amazes me to think that he likely generated this within a few minutes https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26456842-fake-reddit-post-whistleblower-document/

@caseynewton i feel so despondent. How many hours will a journalist need to spend as #AI improves? Give me some hope!

It’s not improving, despite what the techbro slop-merchants say (and the media unthinkingly regurgitates) - if anything it’s getting worse.
GenAI has already slurped up pretty much the entirety of human knowledge to date, and it’s only accurate/true less than 30% of the time. Now it’s consuming its own error-riddled slop, poisoning its own well, and the so-called “hallucination” issue is inherent to how LLMs work - it’s a dead end.
There is always hope.

@sheislaurence one possible source of hope is that AI also helped me debunk this one

@caseynewton and this is why AI needs regulation now.

@caseynewton Is there a reason you run AI ads on your website?

@caseynewton Besides the point now since you know it was generated, but during my time at Uber (specifically on eats) I can't say I'd ever seen an "Uber Eats" badge - they're just Uber badges
