Is there any chance that mastodon.social could support federation with IPv6-only instances in the near future? This would improve federation for everyone. Thanks for your time!

Valid point. The mastodon.social instance already seems to support inbound IPv6: https://en.internet.nl/site/mastodon.social/3738895/#siteipv6
However, for actual interaction and federation via IPv6 outbound support is needed as well and the latter indeed seems to be missing. Hopefully they can fix this. -

@rickvanrooijen We would love to but the Kubernetes distribution we use still does not support IPv6 with our provider…
This is a reason why we are considering switching to another distribution, but this requires significant work and we have a lot of things to juggle right now -

Given the growing uptake of Mastodon, I imagine that you and your team are very busy, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'll continue to follow developments with interest, and am looking forward to the eventual addition of #IPv6 support, which will help me expand my network here even further. Wishing you all the best!

#IPv6 support is a much-needed feature for full federation. So let's get these two issues prioritised and assigned:
