Just because i think a lot of people missed this:
Democrats have consistently given funding to anti immigration legislation. ICE was expanded massively under Biden and Obama too, it's not just Republicans paying them -

Also, let’s slash that budget. Isn’t it up for congress approval again this month? Cut, cut, cut.
And then, it’s time to put the useless department of homeland security out to pasture. Let us actually take a long, hard look at how we incentivize our law enforcement agencies to actually work for us, and that’s done by curtailing the powers they’ve been abusing.

Pretty much, if it happened in the overreaction to 9/11, it was probably a mistake. From the patriot act, to dhs, to the color of ruby as shoelaces.
We have to, as a culture, reckon with how little accountability we ask of our law enforcement agencies. We, the citizens without guns or authority, hold ourselves to higher standards of wisdom than we culturally expect from agents.
But we are changing.

Very true. It's not as though democracy hasn't been eroding for decades, usually due to lobbyists having way more money than the average folks. -
