    So it begins.

Danish pension fund to dump US treasuries "The US is basically not a good credit and long-term the US government finances are not sustainable," says chief investment officer.

Europe holds $8 trillion in USA bonds and equities. This is just the beginning.

@nemeciii Trump's response to this is, of course, going to be to threaten Denmark and demand that they not do it, which is just going to encourage others to follow Denmark's lead.
The U.S. economy crashing is in my opinion the only thing that has any chance of propelling Trump out of office, so the sooner it happens the better.
I've already pulled nearly all my money out of the stock market.

@nemeciii even if Trump wasn’t being an asshole towards the world, just his presence in the White House should be enough to divest oneself of US treasury assets.

@nemeciii With zero immigration U.S. gdp is growing much more slowly than a year ago. But we're still piling on the debt. So debt / gdp is growing ever faster.

@nemeciii @bmacDonald94 Indeed, pension funds have to think long term, and the US is not a growth story.

@EVDHmn I was an institutional fund manager for many years, working with EM and investment grade securities, commodities, stocks and bonds. I was successful with everything except currencies, which I came to realise don't work on fundamentals or technicals, or even sentiment, but rather 'flow', which is controlled. This is true in the short and medium terms, but over the long term fundamentals must apply and, you're right, the dollar will fall. And that is its long term destiny.

@nemeciii It is surprising how, in just one year, the US has gone from being an ally to a threat to Europe, so much so that such a drastic measure as financial warfare is being considered as a possible recourse (and, I hope, as a last resort).

What is clear is that Denmark is already very angry to be doing this. And we are already talking about emotional decisions in the face of constant harassment by an “ally.” This shows that the damage Trump is causing to the confidence and image of the United States will be difficult to repair in the short or medium term.

It must be remembered that the value of a currency not backed by real wealth (the dollar in this case) is more a matter of belief and appearance than reality.

$100 million in treasuries won't even move the needle.

Shouldn’t we see the dollar dropping with this news?

@EVDHmn @pedrobizbikedu @nemeciii ~ It will start quietly Denmark and France are already disposing of their holdings.

@Spirit right now it may be 'symbolic' but watch when every country dumps em. There will no longer be a needle......
