Transport for London has announced events and publications to mark 40 years of Poems on the Underground, the scheme that has brought #poetry to Tube journeys since 1986. A commemorative event will be held at Bank station on 30 January, attended by London poets whose work has featured in the programme. A revised 40th anniversary edition of 100 Poems on the Underground is now on sale, expanding the early selection with additional writers. A new winter poetry set launches on 9 February, featuring contemporary and international poets, and poems will also be displayed at five stations including Aldgate East, Seven Sisters and Westminster. Later this year, TfL will publish a free leaflet, 40 poems for 40 years, available at Underground stations, continuing the programme’s aim of making poetry part of everyday travel.
