I love dogs, but this really irks me. I'm walking on a narrow coastal path, a large dog comes bounding straight up causing me to abruptly stop & turn my back to him clearly uncertain of a strange large dog. Owner comes up & laughingly says,
"He's rather exuberant!"
My reply,
"But I didn't know that."No apology at any stage. I'm afraid I don't find that as amusing as his owner. Grrrr!

Mum has had people comment "Ooh, isn't it well behaved!" about her dog, like the dog just fell to Earth fully trained.
Some dog owners really don't have a clue. They could put their phone away for a start.

@pixiepippi I like dogs too but this (owner) behaviour really winds me up. Their dog may be a big softie that just wants to be friends but you donβt know that when itβs galloping towards you (nor does livestock).
Itβs much the same as children. Parents/owners think theyβre adorable, therefore so must everyone else. Grump grump.

@pixiepippi Don't get me started. A dog came bounding up and jumped on my wife from behind. I had a go. The owner, who was initially out of sight, said it was a puppy and needed to get used to people! Well we did not sign up to be part of that process!

@aroundthehills @pixiepippi When our grandson was quite a bit smaller someone gaily let their two big dogs run right up to him. βOh donβt worry, they wonβt hurt youβ etc etc. They were taller than him FFS. This sort of thing happens all the time- do they never just stop and think???
