    I wonder if I should bring my love of longhand writing on paper to its logical conclusion and write my thesis on paper.

    typewriters would work well for me, I always enjoyed typing on them and I still like them better than even the IBM Model M. the problem is that I do my best writing away from home, and while *I* wouldn't mind carrying a Hermes Lettera or similar to the café, it's Germany. I think I'd basically be lynched on a public square. People here *really* don't do noise. an electric typewriter is just boring, already basically a computer.

    writing an entire PhD thesis on paper might be a bit too much even for me, but for first drafts and narrative sections it sounds like a great way around blocks and avoidance. not having screens around me is a godsend

      @elilla
      May I suggest the opposite?

      Use a computer for all the tedious outlining, editing, citations, etc. and once you are all done, write the final product longhand with the nicest fountain pen you have and the ink you most adore.
