Did you know that during winter – i.e., right now, there is a second hovercraft service? The ferry service on Lake Peipus in eastern Estonia right by the Russian border between Laaksaare and Piirissaar is operated by hovercraft when the lake is frozen.

@partim Amazing. And you can even get there by public transport. Takes six hours from Tallinn, though, so not really a day trip opportunity. And no hotels. One could attempt some winter wild camping, but I think that is frowned upon in Estonia, plus, given the proximity of the border, might raise some eyebrows.

@tml Maybe it is doable from Tartu? I have a week in mid-March and was thinking of going that way, anyway. Might be worth giving a try.
