      @undefined_variable I know some people might be reluctant to medicate, and, as long as it's done in safe-ish dosages, I've always thought it's wise to help my body were I can

        @webhat I guess the usual disagreement is if you should let the fever run its course (within reasonable limits) or medicate it to lower it. I've tried to do a bit of both now, let the fever run but taking painkillers especially before the bedtime or if aches and pains get strong enough.

          @undefined_variable @webhat I have no source for this, and I didn’t go looking, but I remember hearing somewhere that lowering the fewer has no negative impact in terms of the body’s own response to a virus, and letting it run its course does not make it go away faster… Anyway on a personal note, if I am in discomfort and there’s a (safe, trusted) pill for that, I’m taking it 🙂 Life’s too short and I’m dying slowly from million other things! 😅

              @undefined_variable @webhat
              If it's proper flu, the fever can get quite high, so lowering it is good for the body as high temperatures are not good for the body otherwise. Especially if the fever is starting to approach 40°C it is very much advisable to lower it with medication.

                @biohumanisti @webhat Yeah, influenza A here with a fever that was spiking to 39+. Seems to have settled now a bit, knocking on wood.

                  @undefined_variable a doctor has told me that the saying "let the fever run its course" is nonsense and there's no reason for avoiding medication when having fever. So I usually take some medicine if I feel really crap.

                    @korpiojanna That's why I've been confused about this, as some doctors say one thing, others the other. Though all usually agree that if the fever gets too high you should strive to lower it.
