Update on my gastroparesis visit with the knowledgeable surgeon today, for anyone that is curious and especially anyone that is vegan.
He immediately recognized that it is impossible to eat healthy vegan food, and especially follow a whole food plant based diet that I strive for, on a gastroparesis diet. No need to sell him on it.
He did warn me that my goal to go back on the GLP-1 weight loss med Zepbound post surgery likely will not be possible, due to GLP-1's causing and escalating gastroparesis. But he held out hope there was a chance.
After reviewing my gastric emptying study, he confirmed the gastroparesis diagnosis and that I'm a great candidate for the G-POEM permanent surgery. There are actually two variations, the usual one which simply permanently opens the lower valve connecting the stomach with the small intestines, and a less-chosen aggressive option of also a stomach stimulator that is even more effective. I chose the latter, assuming my insurance will approve the prior auth.
