I seem to go through walking/trail shoes in about 4–6 months regardless of brand (yes, I have tried "quality" examples), so I go for discount cheapies: they may only last 75% as long, but the're like 12–20% of the price. They're fine around town, and I save the decent trail shoes for actual trails, deserts, mountains, etc.
But lately it's become impossible to find examples that fit. My shoe size doesn't seem to have changed, but where I used to be able to buy that size with reasonable confidence, I'm about to return my *fifth* pair in the last six months, this time because they fit one foot (just one!) oddly.
If you've done the math: yes: this means I'm on the verge of not having "town" shoes. Sigh.
