I'm confused about how boost posts and quote posts work.
I recall people advocating for quote post functionality to be added. It was something I opposed, but it did get added.
So, in my preferences, I chose to restrict quote posts, preferring that, if people wanted share my posts, that they boost them instead.
I use Pachli. I find that if a user has disabled quoting (presumably preferring to only allow boosting), that boosting of a user's post is also disabled. What is displayed is the quote icon without the boost arrow icon under it. Pressing this gives the feedback, "Quoting disabled by author", but there is no option to boost.
Is this proper? Does preventing quote posts also prevent boost posts? Is there a way to allow boost posts while disallowing quote posts?

@markgrieveson don't know about Pachli I'm afraid, but I do know your initial understanding was correct - it should just stop quoting, not boosts. I'm just in a browser and this is how your post appears to me - I could boost it, but not quote it.

Thanks. It's just something I've seen with some posts.
See image. In it you'll see that when I press the quote icon, it reads, "quoting disabled by author". No option to boost is given. Oddly, other posts by this same user do allow for both quotes and boosts. In the official Mastodon app, it simply locks down both the boost and quote function (see 2nd image).
I've seen other random posts like this. It's odd, because the posts in question are by people who have never before prohibited boosting. And it's only some posts, not all (and kinda random, in that posts after the ones where both boosting and quoting were prohibited, do appear with no such prohibition). I don't even see an option in my settings for prohibiting boosting (just quoting).
